Romney seeks lift in Israel after London miscues

LONDON -- Mitt Romney will try to rebuild momentum for his closely watched foreign trip Saturday when he arrives in Israel, where the presumptive GOP nominee will look to escape two days' worth of negative headlines plaguing his campaign in London.

Romney will arrive in Jerusalem with hopes of finding surer political footing than in London. He spent most of his two days in the United Kingdom's capital trying to clean up a controversy spurred by his comments to NBC doubting London's preparation for the Summer Olympic Games. He and his wife Ann attended the opening ceremonies last night.

This will be Romney's fourth visit to Israel, and it's expected to be another whirlwind day of meetings with top officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (a friend of Romney's from their days at Boston Consulting Group decades ago), and Palestinian leader Salam Fayyad, whom Romney also knows from previous visits.

Romney will also give a public speech while in Jerusalem ??his first such engagement thus far during his foreign trip ??that is expected to be heavy on praise for America's most important ally in the Middle East, with whom Romney has repeatedly called for the U.S. to "lock arms" on the international stage.

The presumptive GOP nominee has pledged to keep with diplomatic tradition by not criticizing President Obama or his foreign policy while on foreign soil, but in an interview with the Israeli newspaper Hayom (owned by conservative mega-donor Sheldon Adelson), Romney ripped the president for various elements of his policy toward Israel, including the president's call for the Israel to consider returning to its pre-1967 borders, including land swaps with the Palestinians to compensate for disputed territory.

"The president has also spoken of returning to 1967 borders ? they are indefensible. And acting as a negotiator and usurping the primary role played by Israel in negotiating for its own future is not the right course for America to take," Romney told the paper.

Romney also indicated in his interview with Hayom that his primary audience on this trip to Israel was, after all, American voters. In 2008, President Obama carried the Jewish vote with 78 percent of the vote, a lead into which Romney's campaign would love to make inroads.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk explains:

"The context is a political campaign in which there is a sense that because of tensions between Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu the American Jewish vote is up for grabs," said Indyk, who served under Bill Clinton. "In that context its natural that the Republican campaign would seek to emphasize the friendships Romney has in Israel and the problems Obama has had with Netanyahu."

Indyk, who has authored a book on Obama's foreign policy, described Obama's security record on Israel - enhanced Friday by the signing of a new agreement - "impeccable," but said Romney had room to appeal to Israelis and Americans by showing more warmth to Israel than the sometimes cold Obama.

Sure to be on the agenda in Romney's various meetings: the specter of a nuclear Iran, the most pressing security issue to Israel.

"Again, he's got to walk between the raindrops, because while he'll try to draw distinction and claim Obama is weak and he is strong on this issue, he's got to be careful not to give the American voting public the impression if he's president he'll go to war with Iran," Indyk said. ?

Hail at the Summer Olympics? Tennis delay at Wimbledon

Play in the Olympic tennis tournament at Wimbledon was delayed in all but one match as the Centre Court roof was closed following a hailstorm which lashed the All England Club on Sunday.

Hail and heavy rain briefly poured down at the south-west London venue just as play was set to get underway on the outside courts at 1030GMT.

The storm didn't last long, but it was enough to persuade organisers to close the Centre Court roof, which saw regular action during the recent rain-hit Wimbledon, for the first time in the Olympic tournament.

Play on Centre Court was only held up by around 10 minutes as this year's beaten Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska and Germany's Julia Goerges emerged just after the scheduled midday start on the main show court.

It was the first time Olympic tennis has been played indoors in the modern era, although the event was staged under a roof in Stockholm in 1912 and London in 1908.

However, on the uncovered Court One, where world number two Novak Djokovic starts against Italy's Fabio Fognini, and the rest of the outside courts, play remained suspended for over two hours due to persistent showers.

Browns owner talking with possible investor

CLEVELAND (AP) ? Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner says he's discussing a possible investment in the team by businessman Jimmy Haslam.

The team announced Friday that Lerner was approached by Haslam about his interest in making an investment in the Browns. It didn't specify if Haslam wants to buy all or part of the team.

The statement says Lerner and Haslam "are currently in negotiations" and have agreed to keep details private.

Lerner says he's being careful to avoid letting the negotiations become a disruption as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Any transaction would require league approval.

Hello my friends! It?s friday and I?m sure you?re all excited ;) How was your week?

I?ve had a busy few days with work but got rewarded with a little girl?s night out yesterday for a bachelorette party ;) We went downtown to a club and had the best time! It?s so good to go out and dance the night away ? I even wore heels ? while recovering from MG that was not allowed for 3 years ? but I thought I felt pretty good to test out the waters ;) Now we?re super excited about our friends? wedding on Saturday especially since Miss Gabriella will be the flower girl ;)

Since I?m in a bit of a rough shape this morning ? staying up late, feeling achy and sore and having a couple of drinks ? - today, I?m being super good to my body ? lot?s of water and fresh light foods that are easy on the digestive tract. This Raw Food party could not come at a better time ;)

What is the Raw Food Diet?

Raw foodism (or?rawism) is the practice of consuming uncooked, unprocessed,?and often organic foods?as a large percentage of the diet. Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains?such as?gaba rice). A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed, raw plant foods that have not been heated above 40??C (104??F). Raw vegans believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost much of their nutritional value and are less healthful or even harmful to the body. Advocates argue that raw or living foods have natural enzymes, which are critical in building proteins and rebuilding the body, and that heating these foods kills the natural enzymes and can leave toxins behind. However, critics point out that enzymes, as with other proteins consumed in the diet, are denatured and eventually lysed by the digestive process rendering them non-functional. Typical foods included in raw food diets are fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains and legumes.

I think Summertime is the best time to introduce more Raw Food recipes more often ? even if you don?t plan to adapt your diet solely to Raw. More healthy foods in your diet means better health. And the Raw Vegan diet is amazing in nutrition and you would be surprised to find it also rich in vibrant flavours! I personally have not experienced a better dining experience than when it was with raw foods at our favourite local raw restaurants. It?s the one place I feel most comfortable that it?s vegan and gluten free naturally. And when I attempted some recipes on my own ? I was amazed with the results ? I find dishes are more creative and have a bigger play with spices and ingredients that you normally would not expect to find and it?s always a great guessing name to what?s in a recipe ;)

So, let?s have fun this weekend and aim for raw vegan food
~ this includes most salads, dips, smoothies, raw desserts, raw wraps and
anything dehydrated as this is the main method for ?cooking? foods.

Chinese doctor reveals state-sponsored doping

Chinese Olympians were subjected to a state-sponsored doping regime in the 1980s and 1990s, a retired chief medical supervisor revealed to Australian media on Friday.

Xue Yinxian, the former chief doctor for the Chinese gymnastics team in the 1980s, said steroids and human growth hormones were officially treated as part of "scientific training" as the country emerged as a sporting power.

"It was rampant in the 1980s," she told the Sydney Morning Herald. "One had to accept it."

Xue said athletes often did not know what they were being injected with and medical staff who refused to participate were marginalised.

The newspaper said it was the first time anyone in the system had publicly contradicted Beijing's line that a host of embarrassing doping busts in the 1990s was the result of ambitious individual athletes and coaches.

Beijing has insisted it has cleaned up its act since the 1994 world swimming championships when China performed beyond expectations to win 12 gold medals amid widespread suspicions of doping.

Later that year seven swimmers tested positive for steroids at the Hiroshima Asian Games, which left the squad so decimated that it won only one swimming gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The decline was only temporary and by 1998 China was back -- until four more positive tests and the discovery of human growth hormone in a swimmer's luggage at that year's world championships in Perth, Australia.

Cyclists and weightlifters also frequently tested positive for banned substances at international events.

Xue said she fought a losing battle against the systematic use of drugs at the time.

She told the Herald that the country's top sports official told a meeting in October 1978 that performance-enhancing drugs were simply new things that should be utilised, provided they were properly understood.

"He gave the example of how a woman could use tampons to continue training while having her period," she said.

"And so it was with human growth hormones, which he described as a scientific training method. Whoever rejected them would face punishment or criticism."

Ahead of the London Olympics, which start Friday, Chinese state media said all athletes and coaches were required to take an oath before the nation's flag and vow to remain clean.

In the lead-up, many Chinese athletes have been avoiding meat out of fears that domestic pork, beef and lamb could contain substances such as clenbuterol which has been used to raise Chinese livestock and is a banned anabolic agent.

At least 196 competitors under China's National Aquatics Centre, which governs swimming, diving and other water sports, have been off meat for weeks ahead of the Games, the Yangtze Evening News reported.

Be sure to get some exercise every day. Physical activity has been shown to improve mental health as well as physical well-being. Improving health in general is important to continued self-improvement. As the body begins to feel better, self-esteem improves, and life is just better!

Surrounding yourself with positive people will aid you in gaining self confidence. Positive energy is contagious and these types of people will always encourage you to reach for your goals, giving you the confidence you need to succeed. Surrounding yourself with negativity has the exact opposite effect as they will not encourage you when you need that vital lift.

When you are working on your personal development, make sure you are dealing with the truth. Don?t let yourself be fooled by things that sound good, but really have nothing to back them up. Learn how to tell the truth from a lie, and you will be able to seek out a fulfilling life for yourself.

Never forget your roots, and return to your past often. We are the sum of the successes over our past struggles, so forgetting your roots is only going to hinder you. Remind yourself of where you have been and revisit how you solved large problems. Revisiting success stories is an excellent way to boost your confidence in your ability.

Things that may limit your personal development primarily stem from a negative state of mind. This inhibits your ability to become more and attain more as a human in regards to your career, finances, and your emotional and physical states. If you limit your beliefs and disregard all of the positive qualities about yourself, you will not be able to move forward with your development.

If you find yourself experiencing an unusually high number of worrisome thoughts or anxiety attacks, step back and try to assess variables in your life that may be to blame. You may be able to trace the thoughts to a certain person in your life. Does he or she insist on bringing up a particular incendiary topic whenever you meet? If so, make your feelings clear: stop bringing up the subject or stop spending time in my company.

A great personal development strategy is to try and mimic someone who possesses the traits that you wish to have. This is a pretty simple tip. Being around someone who has a trait that you wish to have will make it easier for you to develop that trait.

Taking time for yourself when you really need it will enable you to handle life better. Being constantly overwhelmed and stressed not only reeks havoc on your mind and body, but it keeps you tightly bound in an out of control cycle. Having control over situations allows you to make better decisions today which leaves you better prepared for tomorrow. Be it a power nap, walk in the park or outright vacation, taking time for yourself is taking care of yourself.

Going from point A to point Z may be your ultimate goal in personal development but it really cannot be done overnight or in one giant step. Use the format A to B, B to C and so on in order to keep yourself in a pattern of achievement and highly motivated toward the long-term, big-picture goal.

Carefully cut out each term and its definition and tape them to their respective sides of miniature flashcards.
